ABOUT MATT HALL

Matt Hall is a lifelong Southwest Michigan resident, constitutional attorney, and proud WMU Bronco serving his fourth term as state representative for Michigan's 42nd House District, covering portions of Kalamazoo and Allegan counties. He lives in Richland Township with his family and is deeply committed to his community.

Before entering the Legislature, Matt worked as a constitutional law attorney, served as the West Michigan liaison for the Michigan Attorney General's office, and gained private-sector experience in business development. He graduated with honors from Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business and earned his Juris Doctor from WMU-Cooley Law School.

Since taking office in 2019, Matt has built a strong record of delivering results for Southwest Michigan families, workers, and small businesses. He chaired the House Oversight Committee and the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic, where he exposed unemployment fraud, pushed for transparency, and held state government accountable. His leadership earned him the MIRS House Member of the Year award in 2020.

Matt later chaired the House Tax Policy Committee, helping lead bipartisan tax relief that continues saving Michigan families and small businesses millions each year. He has been recognized as the Michigan Manufacturers Association Legislator of the Year (2022), a National Federation of Independent Business Guardian of Small Business (2022), and the MIRS Political Figure of the Year (2024).

Now serving as Speaker of the Michigan House, Matt is focused on lowering costs, protecting taxpayers, strengthening public safety, improving local roads and infrastructure, supporting education and skilled trades, and restoring trust in government by working with anyone for the benefit of everyone while delivering real results for the 42nd District.
